Calvary supports and houses Genesis Christian Preschool; Sunday School for both children and adults; Confirmation classes; Bible study groups; Youth groups; Vacation Bible School; an in-house library of Christian literature and videos and more. Calvary strives to offer educational opportunities to blend Christian unity with learning, serving, and fun. In addition, Calvary has supported and mentored pastoral seminary interns.
Genesis Christian Preschool
Calvary houses an amazing preschool called Genesis Christian Preschool. Genesis is specifically geared toward children ages 3-4 years old who will not be going to Kindergarten the following year. We emphasize socialization and early learning skills such as understanding colors, shapes and numbers. Genesis is in session Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the school year from 9 – 11 a.m. Parents have the option of sending their child all three days or just Monday and Wednesday. There are always two teachers in the classroom, both whom hold Bachelors degrees in Early Childhood Education.
If you have a child who is 3-4 years old consider Genesis Christian Preschool for their education. Calvary’s Confirmation program seeks to equip students to grow in lifelong faith through fostering a connection between what is taught in class, their experience in worship, and their daily lives, and to understand they are a vital and valued part of God’s mission in this place and the world. Confirmation is a three-year program beginning in the fall of sixth grade and concluding in the spring of the eighth grade year. Special emphasis is given to the Bible, Martin Luther’s Small Catechism, the Lutheran Church, worship, and faith development. Confirmation classes are separated by grade (6th, 7th, 8th) and meet on Sunday mornings from 9:20 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. Every grade has a yearly Confirmation retreat and 7th grade students attend one week of summer Bible camp. Eighth graders will participate in Faith Outings designed to enhance classroom curriculum. It is our goal to engage our young people, on a personal faith journey, through large and small group discussions, guided activities, retreats, and special projects. We strive to provide a meaningful yet engaging Confirmation ministry. We do not attempt to be Bible scholars. We do attempt to guide our students in a manner that promotes self-discovery and the development of an ongoing faith that is centered in Jesus Christ. The Affirmation of Baptism, or Confirmation, marks the completion of Calvary’s three-year program. Eighth graders who have completed all the requirements, and are ready to publicly profess the faith into which they were Baptized, are Confirmed on the last Sunday of April. WHY DO WE PRACTICE CONFIRMATION? The Lutheran church believes, teaches, and practices infant Baptism because we believe God’s Holy Spirit can and does give faith, even to infants. Confirmation is an opportunity to give the person, who was Baptized as an infant, to stand up on their own to publically affirm their faith they received in Baptism. While Confirmation is not required in the Bible, it is an important heritage to Lutherans. Confirmation is a personal and voluntary act that connects people to the congregational membership. By being Confirmed, a person is publicly proclaiming they have studied the Bible, the doctrine of the Lutheran Church, and they believe in it and trust in Jesus as their Savior.
